Symposium: Vanuatu, an island between diversity and unity
from April 26, 2016 to April 27, 2016
Port-Vila, Vanuatu.
83 islands, 3 official languages and 120 local languages: epitome of the diversity and specificity of the Vanuatu archipelago. Beyond the geographical, cultural and linguistic fragmentation, the “Melanesian path”, an identity common to the Melanesian populations, acts a factor of unity now jeopardized by the impact of globalization.

This international symposium will explore the paradox of Vanuatu culture: unity and diversity, identity and uniformization…

The topic will be addressed by French and Vanuatuan discussants who will be speaking in the three official languages of the archipelago (French, English or Bislama); they will shed a new light on the legal, economic and socio-cultural environment in Vanuatu.
